Pain: I have very little pain in my jaws, except for some that I attribute to them constantly being clenched with rubber bands. I also get an occasional sharp pain in my upper lip or chin that lasts a few seconds. Nothing I can't handle.
Range of motion: With the rubber bands on, I can open my mouth about a quarter of an inch. Without them, I can open about an inch and a half, or a finger and a little bit.
Bite: I haven't gotten over the fact that my upper teeth are in front of my lower teeth. Just lovely. My left back teeth don't make full contact, but the doctor says rubber bands + orthodontia will fix this. I also have a smallish gap in my top teeth on both sides from where my jaw was advanced. I assume that's what it's from, at least; the wire on my braces is cut there, also.
Eating: I eat almost everything. That's not to say I eat almost everything normally, because many things I just swallow whole. I'm getting better at chewing but not all there.
Appearance: Either my swelling is going down, or I'm just getting used to Chubby Cheeks. Also, I totally love my profile. I've been paying extra attention to everyone else's, and I've decided that mine is definitely normal now. Saturday, I went out with some friends for dinner, and put on mascara and did my hair for the first time in a month. That's when I decided I looked like a real person!
School: Yup, this is my first week back at school, and I'm getting back into it. It's nice to be back, though I am exhausted. Reactions from my classmates are varied and interesting. Many don't say anything about my absence or new face -- my dad's explanation is that "only good friends or very tactless people will comment on something like a change in your appearance". Good friends and I suppose the tactless ask. One kid tentatively asked me if I had my wisdom teeth removed. I told him I hadn't, and explained my surgery, basically that my jaw had been broken and then wired shut. This story attracted quite an audience of ooooo-ing people. I was a little proud, I must admit!

Hi Allison!
It's good to hear you say that you love your profile. You should! You look great!! I can't get over that beautiful red hair of yours. :D
I'm pretty much eating everything too but mostly whole. As long as it gets in my tummy.
Glad to hear your doing well.
You look great! Hang in there!!! Everything will be back to normal before you know it!
Hey love! Can't tell you how much I'm loving your blog, can't believe how quickly you've gotten better! Just hope it'll be the same with me, though it's certainly making it seem a lot less scary!
Yeah people don't say things unless they're tactless - even good friends don't as much I've found! When I first had to tell everyone why I had braces fixed all I got was 'Why?? Your teeth are really straight??' but I reckon it's just politeness more than anything.. Glad you're managing to eat OK!! Keep it up chick, all will be well in no time! xxx
Hi Allison.
Just thought I'd look in again and, like the others have already commented, your profile looks great and you really appear to be making fantastic progress with your recovery.
It's great to see and it's also very encouraging for those of us who still have all of this ahead!
Oh, and keep smiling!!
A quarter of an inch! Way to go!
Your recovery sounds like it's going super fast. Excellent.
Awesome pics! :P
I just started up my own orthognathic blog (yours has inspired me, ahaha)
Hi Allison!
I loved to read your blog, because I had a jaw surgery too! I can assure you that you are going to be better quickly! My surgery was on December 19th, an I was swollen for about 2 weeks (I had bimaxillary surgery, to correct my Class III), and I couldn't chew for about 1 month (eating soft food, even ate baby food!). But now I am very well, almost taking off my braces! And everytime I look at the mirror I am so glad I had my surgery!
Best wishes!
Hey love just thought I'd check in and see how you were getting on.. been very quiet on your blog!! xxx
Hi! I love your blog. It's great to hear that the wires and splint came out. I had my surgery on April 2, and I just can't wait to get all this stuff out of my mouth too!
